True Rest

There may be no rest for the wicked,

But there is rest for the weary...

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matt. 11:28

What does society say about rest?

Self Care

Self Love

Self Help

I see a lot of self reliance when I look at social media, television, influencers etc. It seems like we have this same narrative shoved at us everywhere we look. "Treat yourself!" "You deserve it!" "Do what makes you happy!" "Indulge yourself!" "It's ok to splurge if you really want it!"

These statements don't really affirm us or our faith. No matter how much the world wants us to believe that this is the way to happiness. It's not real. You can have a self care session every night and be the most miserable person on earth. Your spirit is faltering without the peace God freely provides.

What does the bible say about rest?

Rest is a gift to be given by God, for God and through God. He is our source of rest.

"My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Exodus 33:14

Spiritual rest in the Lord is what gives us the strength, peace and righteous power to continue to pursue Him in all things. He rested on Sunday, and that day is the perfect day for us to practice spiritual disciplines and remember the gift of rest. TRUE REST.

Spiritual Disciplines you might try:

Simplicity

Solitude

Fasting

Prayer

Encouragement

Giving

Service

Worship

Memorization

...to name just a few!

"But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
